MAY REVELS

Join Washington Revels for MAY REVELS at the Audubon Nature Fair!

May Revels will be performed on the Audubon Naturalist Society's beautiful Woodend grounds in Chevy Chase, MD, as part of their annual Nature Fair.

The 1:30 show will be a Celebration of the Sea, with traditional British songs of Spring, sea chanteys and other songs of the sea. Watch for the full Mayprocession with the Revels "Noisy Band" and banners waving! We will welcome in the May and crown the May Queen with stirring sea ballads, a mummer's play, children's songs, and Revels' traditional audience participation.

At 4:00pm, the Padstow May 'Oss will lead us in for a slightly shorter show featuring the Green Man, the Revels "Noisy Band," and a full audience-participation May Pole Dance!

Come join us for an afternoon of singing, dancing and general merriment!

NOTE: Entry fee for the Nature Fair is $5 for adults, free for kids (under 12). Good all day! The fair runs 11am-5pm, Rain or Shine.

CINCO DE MAYO with CCS

The Capital City Symphony
Victoria Gau, Music Director

~ Season Finale Concert ~

CINCO DE MAYO!
with guest artist Anamer Castrello, mezzo-soprano

Sunday, May 4 at 5pm

Copland, El Salon Mexico
Manuel de Falla, El amor brujo
Dvorak, Symphony No. 9 "New World"

All three of these pieces have strong folk influence. The Dvorak is rooted in Native American and African American folk music, and the de Falla is strongly influenced by the gypsy folklore of Andalusia. Neither, however, quotes pre-existing music. On the other hand, the Copland borrowed at least 9 Mexican folk tunes for this work, subtitled "Popular Type Dance Hall in Mexico City."
