A French-Canadian Celebration of the Winter Solstice

Take an enchanting journey to a charming Québec village and revel in the winter holidays. In the late December chill, the glow of hearth fires warms the spirits of the villagers as they prepare for the time of celebration—le temps des Fêtes! Amidst this holiday cheer, a group of young men prepares to set out after profit and adventure—to be voyageurs. They paddle a huge canoe across rivers and lakes, deep into the wild Canadian woods—but not even rugged terrain can stop them from rejoining their loved ones in time for New Year’s Eve!

This energetic Québécois winter celebration features joyous carols, toe-tapping dances, and foot-stomping instrumentals, blending old French traditions with New World ingenuity. Be prepared for a mysterious bargain, a ride in a flying canoe, thrilling tales, and more. Join our cast of over 100, ages 8–80, to sing along and dance in the aisles. Welcome Yule!

You will also be asked to provide ALL of your scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal period.
If cast, you will be required to pay annual membership dues ($25 for ages 18+, $15 for 17 and under).

UrbanArias: LUCY ~ April 1-8, 2017

LUCY is a one-man opera for baritone and chamber ensemble with music by John Glover and a libretto by Kelley Rourke. Set in the 1970s, it is based on the true story of the psychotherapist Maurice Temerlin, who adopted a chimpanzee named LUCY and raised her with his own family. Lucy learned sign language, had her own cat, and drank martinis-- and in this opera her "father" Dr. Maurice Temerlin tells the audience her heart-wrenching story. Presented by UrbanArias.

This brand-new Zip Zap Circus show is a fun and uplifting mash-up of poetry, live music, and circus amazement for all ages. Rise! is an hour of wonder celebrating our human capacity to rise up to create joy, love, and light. Featuring renowned clown-poet-philosopher-storyteller Bill Forchion and friends, Rise! is a unique collaboration of talented artists from the Baltimore and Washington area and beyond.

For the seventh year in a row, our circus community comes together at the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival as volunteer artists and technicians to support the transformational work of Zip Zap Circus in South Africa and North America.

Join Becky Linafelt, members of the Takoma Ensemble, and our special guest, the effervescent composer Charlie Barnett for the latest in our series of incredibly popular and interactive concerts geared to children ages 1-1/2 to 7 and their grown-ups!

In a program called "Meet the Composer", our young audience will have the chance to learn how music is created - and to help!

Tickets not available in advance for this event, so come early as it fills up!
Suggested donation $10 per child.
