for semi-staged opera in concert:

John Philip Sousa's
Chris and the Wonderful Lamp 

The story of a young man from Connecticut who buys Aladdin's lamp at an auction and employs the genie to help see his love, Fanny, who is sequestered in a school for girls.

Auditions (by appointment only)For those interested in principal roles and those new to The Victorian Lyric Opera Company. Current and former VLOC members may sign up for chorus using the audition sign up form. Dates are:

Audition informationPlease prepare one verse of a song in English and bring sheet music in the appropriate key for the provided accompanist. You will be asked to provide your scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal period of July through September.
Rehearsals: All rehearsals will be at Holy Redeemer, with a combination of Sunday afternoons and TuesdayWednesday, and Thursday evenings.

  • Aladdin, the mythological character….. tenor
  • Mr. Lovemoney, a New England money lender (Act I) / The Grand Vizier (Act II).…. bass/baritone
  • Mr. Pettingill, auction bidder (Act I) / Al Khizar, chief of the secret police of Etheria (Act II)…. baritone/tenor
  • Auctioneer…(Act I) / Captain of the guard (Act II).... baritone/tenor
  • Katie Clancy, maid-of-all-work at the Academy (Act I) / Amine, a talking doll (Act II)….. soprano/mezzo-soprano
